Color Analysis in Milan

Some colours make you look rested. Others make you look tired. It isn't a matter of taste — it is the physical relationship between the pigment in a fabric and the pigment in your skin, your eyes, your hair. A colour analysis identifies that relationship once, so you never have to guess at it again.

Every day, among the boutiques of the Quadrilatero, I watch people buy beautifully and dress badly, for one reason: the colour is wrong. Colour analysis is the fastest way I know to stop buying the wrong things.

WHAT COLOUR ANALYSIS IS — AND WHAT IT ISN'T

It is not a list of forbidden colours. It is a map of how four variables behave on you: temperature (warm or cool), value (light or deep), intensity (bright or muted) and contrast (high or soft). Those four variables produce your season. I work with the method of the Italian Image Institute.

What it isn't: a moral rule. Once you understand how colour behaves on you, you also understand how to wear the colours that theoretically don't suit you — moved away from the face, mediated by a neutral, or in a different fabric. That is the last part of the consultation, and the part clients use most.

HOW THE CONSULTATION WORKS

Before we meet. I ask only that you come without make-up and with your hair away from your face. Nothing else.

Draping, about fifty minutes. Test fabrics held near your face in natural light, one at a time. We watch what happens to your skin together: the shadows under your eyes, the definition of your features, the tone of your complexion. It is not a test you have to guess at — the difference is visible, and you will see it too.

Identifying your season. We isolate the four variables one by one until we reach your precise season.

Putting it to use is the part that matters: which colours for a coat, which near the face, which for accessories, which for make-up. How they combine on your particular level of contrast. And how to handle the colours you love that aren't in your palette.

Ninety minutes in total, at Via Monte Napoleone 8, always in natural light. In English, Italian or German.

WHAT YOU TAKE AWAY

Your seasonal profile, with the reasoning behind it — not just the label.

Your palette in two formats: digital, to keep on your phone inside the shops, and printed.

Guidance on metals, base neutrals and make-up colours.

The combinations that work at your contrast level, because two correct colours badly paired are still two wrong colours.

A written personal guide that stays with you.

COST AND DURATION

Colour analysis starts at €120 and takes around ninety minutes. That includes the full analysis, the palette in both formats, and your written guide.

If you would like the analysis followed by a shopping day — palette in hand, inside the boutiques — it folds into the image consulting packages, and part of the cost is absorbed. Pricing is always confirmed in writing before we begin.

WHO IT'S FOR

People rebuilding a wardrobe after a change: of role, of city, of decade, or simply of hair colour.

People who buy well but find that half the wardrobe is never worn.

People preparing for a public role or a professional transition where appearance carries as much weight as the résumé.

People in Milan for a few days who want to buy well the first time, because there won't be a second chance.

People standing in a fitting room who can no longer tell whether that colour is working.

WHERE

Via Monte Napoleone 8, 20121 Milan. By appointment, every day from 10am to 6pm, always in natural light — artificial light makes the reading unreliable, which is why appointments are during the day.

I also work on Lake Como, in Zurich and in Taormina on request.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long does it take? Around ninety minutes.

Do I need to come without make-up? Yes, and with your hair away from your face. Make-up distorts the reading of your complexion.

Does it still work if my hair is coloured? Yes. The analysis is based on skin and eyes; hair colour is a variable we work with, not an obstacle. In fact one of the most useful outcomes is knowing which tone of colour suits you.

Is colour analysis relevant for men? Yes, with the same method. What changes is the practical application, not the analysis.

What language is the session in? English, Italian or German.

Can I shop with you the same day? Yes, and it's the sequence I recommend — a palette is far more useful while you're using it than the day after.

Do you offer this online? Colour analysis is done in person: the reading is better that way.
